Original Request: Seeking your recommendations for: 1.Boys favorite books 2nd grade 5th grade. 2. Chapter books for beginners other than "Junie B", "Magic Tree house" and "Henry and Mudge" (Rylant). What are the faves in your place, gang? Responses: Greetings! (1) My boys seem to enjoy the graphic novel format nonfiction books -- history and biographies. (2) Judy Moody is a new favorite beginner chapter book series at my school Our favorites are: Wiley & Grampa's creature features by Kirk Scroggs A to Z mysteries by Ron Roy Jigsaw Jones by James Preller Scooby-Doo Mysteries & beginning to read by various authors Dragon Slayer's academy by Kate McMullan Ghostville Elementary by Marcia Thornton Jones Zack Files and Weird Planet by Dan Greenburg Hank the Cowdog by John Erikson Matt Christopher by various authors Bailey School Kids (popular again this year) Debbie Dadey Fly Guy (2nd grade) by Ted Arnold Franny K. Stein by Jim Benton Secrets of Droon by Tony Abbott Harry Potter (4th & 5th) Rowling Mike Lupa books (4-5th) Anything with cars and military non-fiction for the 4th-5th Huge requests for Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Captain Underpants, the Brian books. The new 39 Clues Series (each book has a different author): both boys and girls are enjoying it in my buildings. Chapter Books would be Ghostville Elementary, Zack Files and Horrible Harry Older kids (3rd grade) love the Geronimo Stilton Books, Judy Moody and Stink books, and anything by Jim Benton. Hope this helps! I loved the Droon series by Tony Abbott. I'd say it was about a 3rd or 4th grade level, but I wasn't reading it for research. It has about 20 books last I checked, plus 4 or 5 books at a slightly higher reading level.
