Hey You All,

I'm really excited to share this with you. I've developed a tool on
abookandahug.com to help boys find a book suits what I'm calling their "reading
personality." If you go to abookandahug.com and then click on Books For Boys on
the toolbar on the homepage, you'll be brought to the main page. You can take a
look at the four categories I've created to help guys find a book.

1. Answerman
2. Belonger/Connector
3. Jokester/Thrill Seeker
4. Seeker/Leader

You can read descriptions of the four categories and then click on the category to
get more info. If you click on Find Books, there are books for each kind of
reader. Now, certainly boys will cross into more than one category and some books
cross the lines of categories too. But, this is how I think about boys when they
come into the library to find a book and I thought I'd share my "mental system"
with you and it might help you, too.

I presented this at the Shenandoah University Annual Children's Literature
Festival run by the fabulous Karen Huff this past June/July and it has been
well-received. Boys can go on the site and use the system to find their own books
too which is a nice feature.

There is another new section on the website-What's New! The books are listed by
reading level.

Oh, and I don't think I ever told you all when the Books Alive section launched.
If you click on that feature on the homepage, you can see my tv interviews with
authors/illustrators. We have about 12 of them up right now and many more waiting
to be condensed and loaded. You are welcome to share these with your students.

So, there are my "holiday gifts" to this wonderful group. I really hope they
empower the children in your world to find the right book and I wish you joy.

Very best,
Barb
