I spent some time yesterday helping some students with their independent study research in our local university library and got talking to the research librarian who was assisting us. We realized that our situations are in many ways very similar, and after we talked, she shared this webpage with me. I think it might be helpful in convincing my teachers and administration of the importance of incorporating information literacy skills into the high school curriculum once they know what difficulties students tend to face when they get into college.
