After teaching the second graders all the parts of a book vocabulary, I gave them a worksheet where they used a Table of Contents to answer questions. There was one question that asked them how many pages were in chapter 2. It required them to take the page number that chapter three started on (say, page 32) and subtract from that the page number that chapter 2 started on (pg. 25). I even showed them on their own papers and on the board: 32-25 = ? They couldn't do it! We repeated a similar lesson the next week and I practiced several ways to reach the answer. They're starting to get it, but I really want to do more "library math" with these kids. Can you please share with me your library skills ideas or lesson plans that might be appropriate for second graders and that incorporates math? I will post a HIT. ~April van Buren, district librarian Mesa Vista CSD Ojo Caliente and El Rito, NM MsRyanPCHS@yahoo.com avanburen@mesavista.k12.nm.us 505-583-2275 x.131 505-583-9133 fax -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
