I really enjoyed this book. It is written in verse, but it still told a very
compelling and realistic story.

Keeping the night watch
Authors: Smith, Hope Anita, Lewis, Earl B., ill

A thirteen-year-old African American boy chronicles what happens to his family
when his father, who temporarily left, returns home and they all must deal with
their feelings of anger, hope, abandonment, and fear.

A couple of books that immediately sprang to mind:

Hate That Cat/Love That Dog by Sharon Creech.

Blue Lipstick: Concrete Poems by John Grandits.

My supervisor needs to spend some money (quickly) and she is asking for boo=
ks written in poetic form that tell a story. All I can think of is Make Lem=
onade. Does anyone have any suggestions?
It's for a middle school population.
