That happened to me many a time during my career...I never received any
Christmas gifts or end of year thanks. When teachers were lauded at the end
of the school year for all their hard work, I was ignored. This despite my
teaching all 9 grades ( K-8) not only library skills, but language arts
along with the teachers ( I would concentrate on literature and they would
concentrate on grammar), as well as computers.

At least at the high school level, I did receive thanks from the Mothers
Group along with the other teachers, though I never received any individual
gifts like the other teachers did. In fact, one student said almost the
same thing your little one did, only not to me, but to a group of other
students.

Ah,well...and then there is the student who years later will recognize you
and be so happy to see you.
