I am wanting to create a unit on our 49th state of Alaska for first grade/lower
elementary grades. Has anyone done the same in the past and willing to share their
unit of lessons and supporting documents and student resources? I want to add to
what I have in my own personal resources and ideas. In early 2009, I taught 1st
graders about the Arctic/North Pole. This year I want to expand and go in another
direction. First grade social studies objective is centered on how a location,
climate, and physical surroundings affect the wat people live---their food,
clothing, shelter, transportation, and recreation.
Any known, active internet sites where there is a theme/unit on Alaska would be
great.
Literature titles to use with 1st grade on this unit ( Alaska people and the
state) aare also appreciated, especially fiction.
