The sad part about all of this is that when I went to get my masters in library media; the curriculm required me to take more credit hours than that of a teacher pursuing thier master in Education.Teachers fail to reaalize that we know more about the school's curriculm better than they do. I know from experience. I sell myself through the students: when I conduct my lessons, I always hear from the teachers we are just about to start that lesson. I always say I know that is why I introduced it to the children to give them some introduction to the topic. Just think what will happen to students if they did not have libarians/libraries. Wow, no specials time, no book fairs, no leisure reading, no computers, etc. What would the school culture/climate be with out us the 'NOT REAL TEACHERS'?????? I have my principal's license as well. I overheard teacher say what does a gym, music, art & librarian teacher know about leading a building. They just do not know that we 'Specialist teacher' have more experience with leadership then a typical classroom teacher. I just can't stand it. Within my school district, Cincinnati Public Schools, the librarians are taking control. We are gaining more respect from the district as a whole. We currently hold our own Professional Development days district wide :) We will get the respect we need. We have also passed our public library levy to keep our public libraries open !!
