I spent all but one of the 25+ years I worked in school libraries as a teacher covering preps for classroom teachers. When my students walked into the library, they knew they were in my classroom, I was the teacher and in charge for 45 mins. every week. The littlest ones often referred to me as "the liberry teacher". However it was always a surprise to see the kids coming in with gifts (Christmas and Hanukkah) every year. As I decorated my tree this year, I used several of the ornaments (some handmade and signed) given to me by students over they years. These are great memories that I take into my retirement from K-12 teaching. There were times when my administrators did not always treat the library as fairly as other areas but I prefer not to dwell on them and just remember the great things about working in the school library.
