Hi All - I wonder if you could advise me. Each year I have a simple discussion with my 1st graders about copyright a la "you cannot copy someone else's work and claim it as your own". I am wondering however if there is room in there for "honoring" someone else's work by trying to reproduce it yourself, so long as you do not try to pass the work off as your own original creation, and you do not publish it. What I'd like to do is have the children select their favorite Caldecott Medal winning book and try to illustrate it's cover as a sort of homage to the illustrator. Please tell me what you think. Thank you in advance!
