It is not reliable. The editors could be my grandson in his garage. And
he does do it since he was 13. The editors for world book are generally
more academic! It is also not consistent, the info changes back and
forth, depending on the editor, without regard to a more rigorous
scrutiny.

You can use my analogy with them.
I use wikipedi when I need quick info that I can then transfer to more
substantial searches. For example, what is the capital of the German
state of Westphalia? I can quickly find the wiki answer and then look
in world book.
I consider Wikipedia an informal almanac, a garbage can of information
that I can pick and choose from.

I ask them, where do you go when you want to buy socks and white
t-shirts for school?
They say walmart or kmart or target.
I say, that is Wikipedia. Cheap, basic, who knows who made it? not
totally dependable to last.
I ask them, where do you go to buy your best shirt for the dances and
the latest girl fashions to be 'stylin'?
They say kohls or the designer places in town.
I say, those are the databases like ebsco and culturegrams and world
book. We have to pay, but they are reliable and dependable and higher
quality by academic researchers.

The kids get it.

Subject: Why NOT Wikapedia

Looking for some brief hard cold facts as to why wikapedia is should not
be
a "citeable" source for research. Presenting to faculty today and there
are
some big advocates of it who will claim it is just as reliable as
Worldbook.
