This is a charter school and they are looking to hire IMMEDIATELY. They want someone who can build a total program and they are ready to spend some bucks to make it happen. POSITION TITLE: Secondary Library Media Specialist QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Bachelor of Science Degree in Education Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate Provisional certification as a library media specialist Preferred: Certification as a library media specialist Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science Experience in curriculum development and management Computer literacy in library media applications WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: Type of Authority: Staff POSITION GOAL: To support the district philosophy and instructional goals by providing the opportunity for students and staff to become effective users of information. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Collaborates with teachers to design instruction that integrates information and technology skills into the curriculum. 2. Encourages students in reading, viewing and listening for understanding and enjoyment. 3. Supports the learning of all students and other members of the learning community including faculty and staff. 4. Implements effective teaching techniques and varied instructional strategies that address the diversity of the learner. 5. Manages the selection, acquisition, circulation, and maintenance of materials and equipment according to district procedures. 6. Establishes and maintains an environment in which students and staff can work at productive levels. 7. Manages student’s behavior in a constructive manner. 8. Develops and evaluates collections collaboratively to support the school’s curriculum and needs of diverse learning styles of students and staff. 9. Periodically evaluates the library media center programs, services, and facilities to insure optimum use. 10. Trains and supervises library media personnel, volunteers and students. 11. Prepares statistical records and reports needed to administer the library media program, keep the administration informed of activities, and maintain MSIP standards. 12. Administers the LMC budget according to the need and objectives of the library media program, administrators, staff and students. 13. Formulates and carries out immediate and long-range goals. 14. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with students, staff, administrators, parents and patrons through effective communication. 15. Participates in professional growth activities. 16. Recognizes the critical role of information retrieval in the future of education by keeping educationally and professionally informed concerning the most recent materials and equipment pertaining to instructional media. 17. Participates in library media department meetings as scheduled. 18. Collaborates in the development and implementation of the building and district vision, mission, and goals. 19. Is aware of and follows the policies and procedures of the school and the school district. 20. Assumes other assigned responsibilities as designated by the appropriate district administrator.
