Dear listserv folks:
 Here's a request I've received from a teachercolleague. I would appreciate any
help.

If I might pick your awesome brain, could you think of some books that
can help a child who is having some sad emotional strain?
Either fiction or nonfiction might be helpful. Sixth grader

Issues:
1) mother & father separated
2) mother marrying another man
3) child reports step-father is supportive, but child feels anger with
him because he feels conflicted that he should submit to the step
father's fair discipline because he wishes it were his father who was
there doing the job.
4) father in jail until ~April and then will expect problems
5) mother says father used to be a super dad
6) child concerned about loyalty and extent of love
7) child feels "not regular" compared to other children
8) child feels jealous of kids who get to see their dads every day
9) child feels sad
10) seems responsive to the idea of looking for and listing the good
things in his life
11) really important grandmother is in fourth recurrence of cancer ---
only taking herbs; child worried

Novels and how-to-be happy books may give him a new direction to focus
his energy.
Many thanks for your help,
