Last week I asked for suggestions on how having Destiny would enhance
student learning. Thanks to all who responded! Below is a paraphrased
list of the suggestions...all very helpful! I'm not sending the actual
responses because I created this list to use with our District and I
think it covers what people said (for the most part.)

I did have one person who suggested looking into Alexandria since they
have a 50% sale right now.
Nobody responded to textbook manager...but I wasn't clear about that in
my target. Follett is currently including Textbook manager in the price
for Destiny. (the price for Destiny is the same without or without
Textbook manager...I'm not sure if that is because we have 2 schools
with their older version or not.)

I had a lot of people mention that Follett will be quitting support of
Circ+/Cat+ soon.

Here is the rest of the hit:

Below are some of the advantages to students and staff:

· Destiny Quest features:
o Students can use the *browse the shelf* feature to locate
other books on their topics or of interest.
o Students can do more refined searches by narrowing down the
search fields. This will result in more effective research.
o Students can see reading level at a glance.
o Patrons can post and share reviews, providing safe, monitored
networking.
o Students will see additional titles of interest lists.
o All information necessary for citations is available.
o Top 10 listing. Students can see what is currently popular.
o New arrivals. Destiny automatically creates a list of new
materials as they are cataloged into the library.
· Increase in circulation. Librarians who have Destiny have
reported an increase in students using the OPAC (Destiny Quest) because
it is so visually engaging and informative
· Because Destiny creates a Union Catalog, we will have the
ability for Interlibrary loan of materials across the District.
o This levels the playing field for all students in our district,
creating equity in providing for the informational needs of all students
and faculty.
o Sharing of materials to meet assignment goals and student
learning objectives.
· Teachers can search websites by Washington State Standards
· It allows students to share opinions on books by writing
reviews. These are posted to the system and are available for others to
read.
o Enhances their writing skills
o Encourages peers to read books that friends enjoy
o Writing for a purpose
o Communication goals
· We could develop standardization in our library web pages
through Destiny.
· The library webpage tied to the Destiny page provides a central
point where students can go to do research.
· Students and staff can search our databases along with our
collections in One Search.
· Destiny will enhance search capabilities with Webpath express
and provide vetted websites for students to use.
· Students can build their own resources lists for research
projects.
· Staff can build resource lists for classroom projects.
· Destiny can be available 24/7, allowing students and staff
access to the library collection from home.
· Students will have the ability to place holds on materials, see
what is available, and check their current circulation records.
· Citation features to help students properly create
bibliographies to complete their projects.

·
