I received the following responses to my request regarding reading
assessments for high school students.

Our district has been using the Gates-MacGinitie Reading Test for a few
years. The data is being used to make changes in curriculum and
instructional practices.

We also have all teachers in our district trained in Project CRISS.

We use the STAR test part of the Accelerated Reader program to get reading
levels. It is quick, students can take it up to 5 times a year (we do it 2x
per year), and it is as valid as pretty much anything else. We have access
to the results immediately. We use the AR portion of the program for
students to test over books they have read.

We presently use the STAR Reading test from Renaissance learning and would
like a change but don't know of a good alternative.

We don't have one now, but I am looking at SRI and the AR assessment
(STAR?).

Have you tried looking at the adolescent literacy website? I've used it to
find information. It might at least lead you in the right direction

:)
