Kindle2 Impressions – NOTE: I purchased this myself

1. For its primary purpose.. downloading and reading books, it is
incredible. I have downloaded my first book and I find it easier to
read than a paper book. You can change the size of the font and the
downloading process is painless. I notice that when reading the
Kindle, I don’t fall asleep as much as when reading paper.. it may be
just a coincidence or the novelty of it all.
2. Text to speech – It is computer generated and although it is good
for what it is… it is still computer generated. You can adjust male
or female voice and speed. It would be helpful to the educational
market it the words would highlight as they are being read.
3. Internet… this is labeled as “experimental” on the unit. Even
though I have all bars most of the time.. it is a joke. Do not buy it
for the internet. So far the only thing I use it for is looking up
the weather.. on their suggested site.
4. MP3 playing… I have not, nor do I plan to use this.
5. Newspapers, magazines, blogs… -- I have not experimented with this
and doubt if I will. I might try a blog.. if it is one in which I
have interest.
6. Dictionary – while I have not used this yet, it appears that you
have to look up a word rather than highlight it in the text.
7. Things I would like to see.
            a. Option for password protection
            b. A button to display the time.. a constant running clock
would be distracting.
            c. An option to display your name and possible phone
number on the screen in sleep mode in case you leave it somewhere.
There is a place to store this information electronically, but you
have to know how to use the unit to find it. If you leave it
somewhere, someone is liable to contact you if it is easy to do.
