Wow! I've learned of many new titles and authors in addition to old favorites. Here's the original post: I have a group of girls who love "girly books." They particularly like series books. They've been through Katy Kazoo, Mallory, Emma (by Warner), Alice (the younger ones) by Naylor, Millicent Min, Clementine, and I've ordered Sassy, the new Sharon Draper book. These are the ones I can think of from home. I'm looking for some new "heroines" for them to read. They like contemporary realistic fiction about girls who are about their age which would be third-fifth grade. They enjoy lighter, more humorous stories rather than something serious but I'd be open to trying some serious books with them too. Are there any books your girls love that I need to add to the collection? Please email me at home off list and I'll compile a hit if asked. Besides the ones mentioned here are some other suggestions: Judy Moody (McDonald) Allie Finkle (Meg Cabot--2 in series so far) Piper Reed (Kimberly Willis Holt) Ivy and Bean (Barrows)* Probably mentioned the most Dear Dumb Diary (Benton) Franny K Stein (Benton) (not exactly what I was looking for but popular, nonetheless) Juby and the Booker Boys Moxy Maxwell (3 in series) Main Street (Martin) Amazing Days of Abbie Hayes (Mazer) Julia Gillian and the Art of Knowing (McGhee) Just Grace (Harper) Katherine the Almost Great (Mullarkey) My Last Best Friend and My New Last Best Friend (Bowe) I found a series on Amazon that looks interesting but no one mentioned it: Lucy Rose by Katy Kelly. And also mentioned were Amber Brown, Junie B. Jones, American Girls, Betsy Tacy; 1. Love, Ruby Lavender Deborah Wiles 2. Loud Silence of Francine Green Karen Cushman 3. Naked Mole-Rat Letters Mary Amato 4. Olivia Kidney Ellen Potter (There are three of them) 5. The Penderwicks Jeanne Birdsall (There are two, but the second one dragged a bit) 6. Rules Cynthia Lord 7. The Sisters Grimm: Fairy-Tale Detectives Michael Buckley 8. The Wish Gail Carson Levine 9. Amazing Days of Abby Hayes Anne Mazur 10. Jigsaw Jones James Preller 11. Princess School Jane Mason 12. Princess Ellie Diana Kimpton 13. Cam Jansen David Adler 14. Weather/Rainbow/Jewel/Daily Fairies Daisy Meadows 15. Princess Power Suzanne Williams 16. Franny K. Stein Jim Benton 17. Dear Dumb Diary Jim Benton Not all of the ones listed fall into the contemporary realistic fiction genre, but there are many here that I haven't heard of and will give a try. I tried to respond to each person who took the time to send me their favorites. If I missed you, I do appreciate your input.
