Our parent liaison is planning a "Parent University" night at my school. Although my school is only 4th and 5th grades, parents of students from kindergarten through 5th grade will be invited. There will be a general assembly, refreshments, then several breakout sessions. She has asked me to do two workshop sessions, approximately 30 minutes each. She's leaving everything up to me as far as my topic and materials, etc., and she even has a little money that I can spend on gifts, favors, or prizes. I'm thinking that I should do something related to the importance of reading aloud at home, but I'm open to any ideas. Please help!!! What might be interesting and engaging for parents to learn about from the literacy or reading standpoint? Or more importantly, what might be something that they would definitely take from the session and implement at home???? Thanks for any suggestions.
