Foundation series? anything by Asimov Pendragon series by MacHale Gregor (Underland Chronicles) by Collins Firestar series by D'Lacey Alan Gardiner; The Gammage Cup Jane Yolen's Wizard's Hall Diane Duane's Young Wizards series Patricia Wrede's Enchanted Forest Chronicles Emily Rodda's Deltora Quest Gerald Morris's Squires Tale series Garth Nix's Keys to the Kingdom series Possibly Jane Yolen's Pit Dragon series if he's willing to edge into moderate Sci-Fi H.I.V.E. by Mark Walden Crighton's Congo and Sphere The Ender's Game Hardy Boys series The Ferret Series by Richard Bach Issac Asimov Garth Nix that has to do with days of the week, Mister Monday, Grim Tuesday, etc. Swiss Family Robinson Huckleberry Finn Tom Sawyer Little Men Lord of the Flies A Journey to the Center of the Earth Fahrenheit 451 Golden Apples Under the Sun Robinson Crusoe Treasure Island Gulliver's Travels The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood Around the World in 80 Days 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea The Time Machine I, Robot 1984 Animal Farm A Day No Pigs Would Die Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "Sea of Trolls" by Nancy Farmer or "Summerland" by Michael Chabon The Schwa Was Here by Nancy Schusterman (www.guysread.com) for recommendations— McElderry Book of Greek Myths Skellig by David Almond (although it's a little dark and Skellig himself may be an angel--I don't know if that's an issue). The Diana Wynne Jones fantasies are somewhat challenging and quite wonderful. The more difficult ones include The Dark Lord of Derkholm and its sequel. Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve - very cool futuristic series called The Hungry City Chronicles Epic by Conor Kostick? might be too sophisticated Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett & its sequels - very funny magical, fighting 6" tall blue men The Chronicles of Narnia series books by Garth Nix (especially The Seventh Tower series), the Harper Hall Trilogy (Dragon's Drum) by Anne McCaffrey, Ender's Game by Orson Scot Card, Witch World by Andre Norton, and the Wrinkle in Time series by Madeline L'Engle.
