The consensus was to place all of the books in a category, which I could then tell
Destiny to report on. I feel a little slow for not realizing I could use categories
this way, but thanks again to all the people who brought me up to speed!

Original post:

I have received some grant funds to purchase books recently, and one of the ways I
am measuring the success of the grant program is through the circulation of the
newly purchased books. Does anyone know of a way that I can track this easily in
Destiny, short of giving these books a slightly different call number? I'll do it
that way if I have to, but I'd love to know if there is an easier way.

Responses:

I create a category every year called 2008/09 New Books. Then all books that I add
or import go into that category. I can print lists for teachers, or track
circulation and ALWAYS have that list.

You can get circulation statistics on Copy Categories - in the Title and Copy
report. You could also make the category un-restricted so that your patrons would
see the books purchased with the grant which would give you the opportunity the
showcase the grant.

Check to see if Destiny has a "history" function. I know my Concourse system has
this under the "Administration" area. I can find the complete history of any item
or patron by simply specifying the barcode and date parameters.

I know in Circ/Cat you can set up category codes and assign them to books--like all
of my books about presidents have a code, the books I'm withdrawing are always
coded 13 so I can run a category report. Then, when I want to check circulation
stats, one of the report options is to run a stats report by category.

Does Destiny have the category function, still?

Destiny allows you to assign each book a "Category." I would do this an assign
these books a special category. We do this for special collections of books
ourselves. Then when you run circulation reports, you can tell it just to list
books in those category.
