I am the librarian at a small K-12 charter school. Thus, we have limited
funding. In addition, they didn't have a librarian for 2 years, and the one
that had before that appears to have not maintained software licenses for
the program that we use to catalog. I recently contacted them with a
question, and was told that before they could support me, we would need to
pay the money they should have been paid over the last FIVE years. When I
presented the situation to my principal, I was told that the fees would have
to come out of my "library budget" which is soley funded by the book fairs.
In fact, the funds that weren't used the past couple of years have been
rolled back into the school operating budget. Rather than paying all the
money I earn in book fairs for the entire year, I am looking to change to
another type of software. It must be Windows based, so Evergreen isn't an
option. Anyone have any low-cost software that they use in their library
that they are really happy with. We are currently using Concourse, and
though I'm relatively happy with it, I can't make the changes I need to make
(web-opac, etc) without having to pay this nearly $2000 bill.
