Hello I have to do a school wide activity and I am thinking of doing Battle of the Books (I never did it before). I looked through books and websites and in the archives for information and it seems a bit hard for my first year in the school in a low income area where it would be hard to expect many students to be able to read the same book, get it in the public library or from the school. I was thinking of reading myself the stories to the students in about 6 weeks. Each week a different story and then hold a competition with questions for every class with points and then as a culminating activity hold a contest among each grade with a representative from each class. .I meet each class for about 30 minutes a week. I have four classes of 3rd graders, eight classes of 4th graders, 5 classes of 5th graders. I do not know which books to use for each grade level where I can read the story in about 20 min and then give them some graphic organizer about the story. Any suggestions ??, fairy tales ? Most likely I will have to do it all alone as there is no help from PTA or other teachers who are loaded with work and their own committees 1. how to divide the books (which can be read in 20 minutes) by grade levels. ? 2. Do the kids pick up questions from a grab bag ( so no one can complain that it is not fair) 3. what did you use as prizes ? If any of you have done it in a simple way let me know and the format and documents you used Thank You Madeleine Zember Hempstead Schools NY drjesons@gmail.com. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
