If anyone can give me any suggestions, I will be so very grateful.
What can they (lower income people) do?
I am so frustrated!
My son is 28, lives in Seattle Washington, plays drums in several bands and works
as a bartender to pay rent, buy food, etc. He rides his bicycle for transportation.
The bar doesn't offer insurance and he doesn't make enough to afford to buy it
anyway.
A few years ago he had a bike accident and broke his collarbone. He went to the
County hospital as that's the one that has to treat people even if they have no
money. They treated him to the extent that instead of the break lining up and
joining, one piece of break is resting on top of other piece and it healed that
way. Great.
A few months ago he had an accident and broke his foot. Again, same procedure was
followed, hospital said it was healed, and now when he steps on his foot, the part
that broke moves up and down. To him, this is worse than the problem with the
collar bone, as he uses his foot not only for transportation but for playing drums.
What is up with this? They legally have to treat you but they don't have to do it
right?
Now he's thinking of moving home to Indiana to get his foot fixed correctly and
recoup with us. That's fine, except how is he going to pay for it here?
If anyone has gone through this or knows of any organizations that might help, or
something, please, please let me know. As a mom, it's so hard to watch your kid
suffer! And there is no way we could pay it without insurance either.
Thank you for reading through this, I appreciate it.
Kris
