I have had over 75 messages in the past hour asking me for information on
the Youth Media Awards. I didn't write the entire list down, so sought
more info from ALA. Their homepage has been down for the past hour.

I think the reason why their server is so busy is (besides the traffic from
librarians across the US) that they have far too many bells and whistles
built into their press release site at
http://www.ala.org/ala/newspresscenter/mediapresscenter/index.cfm - and this
is the site that facebook is forwarding folks to for more information.

For example, for the Alex Award there's a slide show that pops up. It may
be entertaining, but it's making the information less accessible. Isn't
accessibility to information (in a timely manner) what we are all about?
Their site is really difficult to navigate! Anyway, just so you don't waste
your time - the press release site has not been updated.

If you have the time, you can get their homepage to load eventually...then
the frustrating thing is that there's a separate press release for each
award. WHY couldn't they put the entire list in one link?

What's wrong with one-stop shopping for information?

Sorry, just very frustrated this a.m., I like to be helpful and answer
questions as soon as possible; the ALA site is making that very difficult!

BTW, I will post the Alex award winners in a separate mailing next
