Ivy and Bean Take Care of the Babysitter by Annie 
Barrows.  Chronicle, 2008. ISBN: 978-0-8118-5685-0

Fans of the chapter book series, Ivy and Bean, will find much to love 
in the fourth volume in which Ivy and Bean confront (and overcome) 
the problem of having to be babysat.  The indignity goes without 
saying when poor Bean's big sister Nancy is assigned to babysit her. 
After all, Nancy isn't a BABYSITTER; she's a SISTER! Furthermore, she 
is being paid $20. When Nancy fails to properly fulfill her role, 
however, and locks herself in the bathroom to use Mom's make-up, the 
two imaginative girls get up to enormous mischief in the "crawl 
space" attic, which they've never before seen.  Barrows has an ear 
for second grade humor that makes this carefully plotted book all the 
more delightful.  Every word here rings true, and the girls win in 
the end when they turn the tables on Nancy and blackmail her for part 
of her babysitting cash.  Those who love the Clementine and Judy 
Moody series will continue to love Ivy and Bean as well.  Note: 
Sophie Blackall's illustrations add significantly to the laughter 
here!  Suggested ages: 5-8.
