I thought this article, Washington Post’s Book World Goes Out of Print as a Separate Section, might be of interest: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/29/books/29post.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1&ref=books. As a member of a profession which relies on book reviews from many sources, I find this trend disappointing. I am in NY but I read Book World occasionally. I post the NY Times Children's Bestseller's list in my high school library media center every month and I highlight the books on the list that are in our collection. I also link to book review websites on the library website. Of course, I subscribe to Booklist, SLJ, VOYA and other magazines, but I also rely on the reviewers in the newspapers. I use newspaper articles on popular books in my hallway display case many times. The economy is the reason behind all these cuts but it is a cultural and professional loss when less space is dedicated to books in newspapers. I am an optimist, however, and I think some of these trends will be temporary.
