I only got a couple of suggestions: 1. Grapes of Wrath- this one hits the location and time period precisely and some of the peripheral themes of the book. And, of course, it is a classic. But it lacks the Mexican immigrant angle which resonates with many of our students (78% Hispanic). 2. Real Women Have Curves- different time period but it does focus on Mexican American culture, immigration, a young girl working to support her family, etc. It also features America Ferrera, an actress familiar to the kids. I am not sure which movie the teacher will choose. Thanks for the suggestions.
