thank you again for all the responses ORIGINAL TARGET: A student asked me today for a book of the "biggest words" (besides the dictionary!) his teacher had just taught him the word antidisestablishmentarianism and he got a big kick out of it and wanted to learn more big words sounds like that would be a fun book idea for someone to write if there is no such book but is there such a book? RESPONSES: ***** I just found this book on the shelf. It is titled Big Words for Big Shooters by John E. Rose, Jr. circa 1982. There might be something newer that I do not know of. ***** It's not a book, but Found this link - http://www.fun-with-words.com/word_longest.html ***** I cannot recall a book about big words but depending on the level Donovan's Word Jar (2nd grade) and Cornelia and the Audacious Escapades of the Somerset Sisters (4th and up) come to mind. Each story the character discovers big (or fun) words and how they apply to life. ***** Try this: http://www.target.com/Little-Book-Big-Words/dp/1905862032 ***** Fun post. Got me looking on the Web. There are a few decent sources if you google longest words Here's one I enjoyed. http://www.fun-with-words.com/word_longest.html Jon Agee has some amazing books about words -- but none of them are the long books. Just playfully illustrated books about different types of words that I find meaningful and fun. ***** _____________________________________ Patricia Sarles, MA, MLS Librarian Damrosch Day Treatment School NYC Department of Education 750 Jennings Street Bronx, NY 10459 voice: 718 378-0006 x2172 fax: 718 589-9544 p s a r l e s @ s c h o o l s . n y c . g o v http://damroschlibrary.blogspot.com/ http://wjdlibrary.wikispaces.com/ "Ten guards and the warden couldn't have torn me out of those books.
