Dear LM_NET members:

My husband and I are interested in purchasing some foreign language software
programs so that we can both learn to speak Spanish here at home in order to help
make us more competitive in?the workplace.? We are especially interested in
programs that emphasize quick learning and?conversational speaking, as opposed to
those that might emphasize both the written and spoken aspects of language.? ?I've
requested that our local public library purchase programs for use at the library by
patrons, but I've been told that due to budget considerations, there are other
areas that have a higher priority for purchase

?Due to our work schedules which can change quickly at a moment's notice, it is not
convenient for us to try and attend a regularly-scheduled adult learning class in
person, so that's why we were interested in purchasing our own software program.?

Although I have listed this target as OT (Off-Topic), I also believe that this
could be very much a topic of relevance to many media specialists, especially those
serving in communities with growing numbers of Hispanic patrons.? One of President
Obama's main focuses regarding education concerns the need for foreign languages,
especially as our economy becomes more global in nature.?

I've read reviews online but would like to receive
recommendations/insights/feedback from school library media specialists who might
have these foreign-language software?programs in their media centers and/oir who
have actually used them themselves in order to learn a new language.?

I am especially interested in the following information -

1.? Name of Software Program
2.? Publisher of Software Program
3.? Price
4.? Special Features (if any)
5.? Ease of Usage
6.? Other Important Information

If you will respond to me off-list at my home e-mail address below, I will review
your information and compile a hit and post it on LM_NET if there is any interest.?

Thanks for your insights on this topic.

Sincerely,

Deborah Maehs, ret. SLMS (2007)
