Here in Oklahoma we currently have a great support system for educator seeking
national board, and also great support among librarians.  We have 8 or 9 out of 32
who have certified, and 2 more are current candidates.

It is a wonderful process!  I learned so much going through the process, and I
stay active as a mentor.  I continue to learn from other librarians across the
country.

You'll want to check into the Yahoo Group for Library Media NBCT.  You can easily
join this group and then have access to our listserv for discussions as well as the
group's files that provide some good material for study.

The process is rigorous, but many LMS have certified.  You must complete your
candidacy in one year and that means you submit 4 portfolio entries by March
31st AND take the assessments (6 test questions) before the end of June.  You can
bank the scores you earn in that first year, so if you don't certify the first time
you can continue to build upon your starting point.

I've know people who took Take One, and it does seem to be manageable and help
people "get their feet wet."  I do know that jumping into the whole process does
provide the opportunity of the whole process, and because I'm a "big picture" kind
of person I like that approach.

It is expensive, and some states offer programs to pay for certification costs.
Some states pay incentives to teachers who have completed the process and are
certified.

It is NOT a method of achieving certification to teach in every state.  A National
Board Certified Teacher would still need to meet state requirements to teach in a
specific state.

Hello All-    I'm wondering the same thing, so if there is a HIT, I would be
interested to read it.  Thanks!
