A couple of weeks I asked for advice. My mother had fallen two times in a
month and I was extremely worried and unsure as to how I would cope with my
mother and make it to the retirement finish line in June, 2010.

As I knew you would, you gave some excellent advice. Here is what I decided
to do based on your recommendations:

1. I ordered Phillips Lifeline. My mother now wears the wrist alert and
I decided to put communication boxes on both levels of her house. Three
grand children now have sets of keys to her house in case of emergency.
2. I convinced my mother to give me the names of her medication and her
doctor's name and phone number. I keep everything related to her in one
spiral notebook which is in my car's glove compartment at all times.
3. Only one person who responded had experience with stair lifts. I did
some Internet research based on consumer recommendations and complaints and
decided to purchase the Stannah Stair Lift. There is only one Ohio installer
and I'm having a bit of back and forth getting service, but I hope to have
the lift in by the end of August.
4. I've had my mother's house cleaned twice a month for the last five
years and that will continue. In addition, one of us will bring dinner to
her daily. I am very lucky that my brother, my son, and his cousins are
willing to bring dinner once a week.
5. I joined Caregiver Online, a free service by Family Caregiver
Alliance. To subscribe please go to
http://www.caregiver.org/caregiver/jsp/content_node.jsp?nodeid=486 I
realized by joining Caregiver Online that my problems look miniscule
compared to what others are experiencing, so this was an excellent reality
check.
