A new library is being built for my school, and I've been trying to get the architect to have casters on the bottom of the shelves. I'm told it's practically impossible, because of the weight of the books. Our shelving "units" according to the blueprints will be 42-45" high, and there are three "columns" or sections of approximately 36" each to total about 108" in length. I thought they could put casters on the ends and a set where each 36" section begins. They are being custom built. Do any of you have book shelves that can be moved? If so, were they custom built with casters? Do you have any information on the kind of casters, if so? I'm also asking that the shelves are 10" deep except for two shorter units for Oversized to be 12". Any opinions/experiences? I'll post the results -- TIA, Everyone! -- Elaine Olsen Shelburne, M.
