Hello All,

I have a student who is in dire need of a last minute scholarship or grant. He was
accepted to 7 colleges- Rochester Institute of Technology, New York; University of
Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; Towson University, Morgan State University, University of
Maryland at College Park; University of Maryland, Baltimore County; and Washington
College, Chestertown MD for the fall 2009.

He chose Washington College in Chestertown MD because of its’ size, the large
academic scholarship offering ($66,000 over a 4-year period), and his belief that
he would be an asset to the school and community.

Despite his pattern of academic excellence, he did not receive any academic
scholarship offerings from the other schools listed. His parents do not qualify for
PLUS loans and the students is under 18, so he can not take out any private loans
on his own behalf.

He has demonstrated relentless motivation during his educational experience
despite being homeless at one point, the death of his grandmother, and his mother
being sick and out of work for a prolonged period of time.
A few of his accomplishments include:
o   Advanced Placement Scholar- for students who score 3 or higher on 3 or more
advanced placement exams
o   SAT 1600 club – for students who achieve an SAT score of 1600 or higher
o   President’s Education Award – for outstanding academic achievement
o   Technology Achievement Guarantee- guaranteeing his work place readiness and
technical skills for demonstrating distinguished technology achievement
o   Guidance Department Scholarship Award- for volunteering, and mentoring peers
in the guidance department during high school
o   Instrumental Music Scholarship Award- for his talent and participation in
musical endeavors during high school.
We have spent an enourmous amount of time researching options for this
student but I know that there are other resources out there, that I have not
thought of.  If any of you have  recently compiled a list of scholarships and
grants for your students that you are willing to share, please contact me off list.
Thank you,
