Sometimes an advance proof will have crossed out words, chapter titles can change,
and sometimes even a body of text. Other times the cover might not be available,
inside illustrations may or may not be present, and even the font and leading can
change.
On the cover the book it usually states "Pulishter's proof. Not for sale." or
something of that ilk. While I don't receive many proofs, those that I do get from
conferences or publishers, I will often give to a middle school in my district or
to students as gifts, explaining the differences or errors that they might find. So
many of the kids at the school where I work do NOT own books so they are very
appreciative. However, I do not put these books into circulation or cataloging. If
I liked the book enough to give it away, then chances are that I have ordered a
finalized copy.

Reading is not a duty, and has consequently no business to be made disagreeable.
