All,

I'm at a K-12 charter school in Texas. This will be my second year there.
Last year, I had a boys book club and a girls book club. While clubs were
open for all guys and girls grades 2 and up, I found that the older kids
didn't want to mix with the younger kids. At the end of the school year, my
7th graders approached me about having a book club for them. However, I
don't want to really give up yet another of my afternoons for a book club
(since I already have 2 afternoons tied up with them). So, I approached
admin about having a club during the older kids' lunch period once a week.
I've been assured that my schedule could be arranged so that I have lunch
the same time as them once a week. However, admin needs to know if there
are any legal reasons against having a school sponsored club during the
lunch period, either taking up my personal lunch period or taking up a
student lunch period. Anyone have any arguments for or against doing
something like this? I'd really appreciate some feedback, as the school
year is drawing near. Thanks for any help you all can give.
