Hello Everyone, This message is intended for everyone who is a member of the Teacher Tube group "Book Trailers for All." While we've worked out a lot of the kinks, I'm still not able to send an email to the entire group (now numbering 721!) so the only way I know how to get a message out is on the listserv. I apologize for the inconvenience it may cause for everyone else. If you would like to contribute a book trailer to our group, PLEASE be sure you give proper attribution for all images and music. Citing "Images from Creative Commons" *IS NOT SUFFICIENT*. I know that it is tedious, but attribution needs to be given to each individual owner of each individual image used in the trailer. Creative Commons does not own the rights to the images people post there--it only makes it possible to skip the "asking permission" step in using the images. As media specialists, it is our responsibility to teach kids to be respectful of the intellectual property of others. When I learned that citing Creative Commons alone wasn't sufficient attribution, I actually removed all of my own trailers from my blog and re-did them, which was a MAJOR pain. In mine, I copied and pasted thumbnails of each image and created slides at the end that included the owner's information and image URL. I wasn't happy with the blurriness of the images/text in the final product, but I felt it was better than no attribution at all. From now on I plan to include the username/URL for the images, but I will not be including thumbnails...I will list the citations in order of appearance in the trailer. (Thanks, Naomi!) I hope everyone will understand why proper attribution is important.
