Thanks to those who took the time to reply! Having very little
experience with early childhood, your suggestions were very much
appreciated!

We've definitely decided to go with digital cameras, and, I'll surely
investigate all of the other suggestions! We also decided to purchase
Tech4Learning's software, Pixie. We've had great success with Pixie in
lower elementary. They offer a free 30 day download on their site if
you're interested in checking it out. http://www.tech4learning.com

Please see below for the suggestions. Thanks again!

A document camera! Our first grade teachers have started using ours and
it has really taken off.

As for software, my top pics in order of preference:

1. KidPix

2. Kidspiration

3. Graph Club

I could teach all year, all subjects with just those 3!

I was asked this the other day and I said digital cameras are a must so
everything can be photographed to document their learning journeys.

I also love Max's Toolbox which is the early childhood interface to MS
Office ((MaxWrite=Word; MaxShow= PowerPoint and MaxCount & MaxData=
Excel) . I think it is called Scholastic Keys in the US
http://www.tomsnyder.com/products/product.asp?SKU=KEYKEY A free
alternative to KidPix is Tuxpaint

(http://www.tuxpaint.org <http://www.tuxpaint.org/> ) and Kidspiration
http://www.inspiration.com/Kidspiration is also excellent and essential.

Our 2/3s also use digital cameras. It is amazing!
