LM_NET Archive



I have made very valuable connections with "neighbors" through attending these 
events. It's nice to have a colleague close-by that you can call for assistance.
 
Though we certainly associate with our building colleagues, there's something 
important about meeting with other local LMS's. National events don't give us the 
same ties.

Although I know that these are worthwhile events, as a former state 
school library association president, please don't dismiss state/local 
gatherings-they truly are the grassroots and training network for our 
national organizations and initiatives. I felt I became a much stronger 
teacher librarian and professional advocate because of my involvement at 
the local  and state levels and these experiences were an invaluable 
help to me when I attained National Board Certification. As someone who 
now works in the private sector for a vendor, I believe companies such 
as ours have much to offer the library community and they to us at these 
events.  Plus, though I hate to play the economics card,  local and 
state conferences are a great way for many to stay involved at a lower 
cost.
