ext year, my library will be blessed with a full-time aide for the first time--ever. Yay! (We have about 1,000 students for this K-5 school). My principal's idea is for the aide to handle open access (which will run all day), while I have 6 45-min. classes (actually, 30 min. classes with 15-min. checkout). I will be seeing one of each grade level each day for an 8 day rotation and library will become part of the "specials" rotation (with art, PE, & music). I would like to hear from those of you who are on a similar block rotation and get any tips you might be willing to share. How do you handle behavior issues for students who are coming in for Open Access while you have a class? Did you change your library rules (or how you presented those rules) when you switched to block access? Have you changed how you plan your lessons? What kinds of issues (if any) have you run into? Have you found good solutions to these issues? Any words of wisdom?
