Did you see that the United Kingdom has issued some sort of edict that all spelling will be simplified, and the first act in pursuit of that goal is to eliminate the "I before E, except after C" rule. The rationale is that no one can remember it, and certainly no one can remember the second half of the rule ("unless it says 'AY' as in neighbor and weigh").
