We are putting together a list of books that are considered good read alouds for grades 3 - 5. Our problem is finding those titles that will appeal to students who are either ESL/ELL or of Hispanic heritage. Consequently, some of the die hard novels don't really connect with these kids, due to lack of schema on the students' part or lack of understanding some of the things we take for granted. However, reading aloud to these students will certainly upshore and expand upon what they know as well as creating opportunities for discussions. Yet, they need their attention caught in order to be willing to listen. I have many titles that I am familiar with but know that I am missing some great ones. I will post a compiled hit once I have a goodly assortment Thanks!
