Dear LM_NET members, Last year, I saw this book for sale at one of the bookstores at an airport and wanted to read it.? If you're not?familiar with the book and its subject matter, the author detailed his own personal interactions with local gang members in Chicago while studying?for his doctorate in sociology.?? When I arrived home from my trip, I checked at my local public library to see if they had it available for checkout.? They had obtained the book, but it had "disappeared", meaning that someone had slipped it out without actually checking the book out from the library.? They were hoping that it might return, but it hasn't.? When I was there today, I checked again, and it still hasn't returned.? Then, I asked if it was possible to do an interlibrary loan request from another library?that had the book, but no other libraries in the SW region had ordered it.? The librarian offered to order another copy for the collection, but I hated to do that since one copy had already been stolen. I checked online and found it available for sale, but I'm not really sure that I would want to commit to purchasing it, especially since my husband just had back surgery.? Therefore, I'm wondering if someone may happen to have a hardback copy ,sitting on a shelf?at home and gathering dust, that they might be willing to lend me to read this summer.? (The print is usually larger on a hardback and easier for me to read.)? I would be happy to reimburse you for postage, read the book, and then mail it back to you when I was finished.? During my years as a school library media specialist, I frequently purchased copies of books for my media center collection out of my own pocket, sometimes without reimbursement due to a lack of funds, so I'm hoping that someone can help me now with this book. Please contact me privately off the list-serve at my e-mail address below?if you have a copy you can lend me for a few weeks.? Thanks for your assistance. Deborah Maehs, ret.
