His rowing career began at Colgate University and he now trains out of Norwalk River Rowing Association, in Norwalk, CT. In early 2001 he lost his mother, Katherine Ridley, to malignant skin cancer. Later that year his father, Mark Ridley, was diagnosed with prostate cancer, was successfully treated, and is now cancer-free. Paul is poised to become the third and youngest American to row any ocean solo and unsupported, and is rowing in support of research at Yale Cancer Center. One of the first grade classes at my school is doing research on animals. I just had a young lady come in and ask for a book about, "big long mama snakes with lots of polka dots." I'm still not sure what kind of snake she was looking for, but she seemed happy with a book about garter snakes that I had. Have a wonderful day!
