First, I want to thank everyone who gave me their excellent suggestions for Dr. Seuss activities! Please excuse me if I neglected to respond to someone personally; it's been a hectic week (and it's not over yet). Second, the third and fourth grade classes are coming to the library for special "Read Across America" programs. Each session lasts about forty-five minutes. Since these grades do not visit the library often as a class, I would like some great ideas for activities that the kids will enjoy and which will impress the teachers and administration. The basic theme is the American experience, and I'm considering giving the students a take-home activity (probably a review of a fiction or nonfiction book on this topic). Any suggestions are appreciated. (As most visits are scheduled for the week after next, and I only have an assistant one day a week, I think I'll need a vacation afterwards.) TIA!
