Look for universities and colleges building or renovating new libraries. Their facilities departments give their old sturdy stuff away to all takers and often they require the 'taker' to be a school or non-profit! I got 40 rock maple chairs for no money from a New England university last summer--and I could have had 100! They were giving away tables, chairs, carrels, all solid wood, just needed tightening up and a good scrubbing. All you usually have to do is pick the stuff up. Look around. Good Luck. Noël S. They are subversive. You think they're just sitting there at the desk, all quiet and everything. They're like plotting the revolution, man. I wouldn't mess with them." ...Michael Moore -----Original Message----- From: School Library Media & Network Communications [mailto:LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU] On Behalf Of Elizabeth Fox Sent: Thursday, March 05, 2009 8:19 PM To: LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU Subject: GEN: funding for library furnishings Wondering if anyone has located good sources of funding (or any sort of "deals") for replacing library tables.... Ours are older than our library and, being fiberboard, have issues with buckling legs, etc. I've priced new tables and am blown away at how much it's going to cost us to replace all 12 of our tables. I looked into having the shop classes make some, but it would be extremely expensive to construct them out of solid wood and the joinery would have to be extra strong. Any suggestions appreciated!
