Dear LM_Netters:

Our next AASL-ISTE SIGMS virtual learning community meeting will be on
Thursday, March 19th at 8pm ET/7pm CT/6pm MT/5pm PT in Second Life. This
month’s guest facilitator is Jon Mueller. Jon is the author of the
book *“Assessing
Critical Skills”* (Linworth Publishing) and is a nationally-recognized
expert in skill development and assessment. See his website –
the*Authentic Assessment Website
* at http://jonathan.mueller.faculty.noctrl.edu/toolbox. This meeting will
focus on developing strategies, guidelines, and examples to help students
improve critical skills. Building on implementation of the new AASL
standards, attendees will discuss how to effectively assess students’
critical skills. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with your
colleagues to share ideas on this important concept!

We will meet on the main stage of the ALA Island at
http://slurl.com/secondlife/ALA%20Island/127/101/29. For information about
logging into Second Life, see
http://blogs.cuip.net/dlis/attend-our-librarian-meetings.

About Jon’s book - Reading this well-researched, practical book on assessing
critical skills and applying the author’s strategies will allow the library
media specialist to not only teach the standards but to also teach students
to improve their critical skills.

· Learn the process and value of designing assessment that matches
the critical skills being taught in order to improve student performance.

· Find a clear blueprint for the strategies, guidelines, and examples
the LMS will need to immediately help students improve critical skills.

· Understand the importance of teaching and assessing essential
skills and their connection to significantly improved student achievement.

At the meeting, we will raffle off one copy of Jon’s book and one annual
subscription to the magazine Library Media Connection Monthly.

Thanks,
