In our K-8 library, we get permission from parents of children who have lost books to "work it off" instead of paying for the book. We use the minimum wage/hour as a reasonable rate. For example: If a child lost a $15 book, we would expect about 2 hrs. of work to pay for it. Students come in during their recess or studyhall times. The jobs include cleaning tables and chairs, dusting and straightening up shelves, helping with younger kids check ins and check outs, reading to small groups, and odd jobs. It has been quite successful - especially in our area where there is little extra cash for incidentals. -- Judy Brown K-12 Librarian Caldwell Schools Caldwell, OH 43724 jbrown@caldwell.k12.oh.us -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
