Shelley,

I am a high school librarian (also worked in a middle school), and in our area
(north side of Houston), if I was open & allowed students to come without parents,
I'd be babysitting all day. For our K-12 Book Fest, we require children (K-6) to
be accompanied by one adult.

You might also check with your local public library about their rules for leaving
children alone -- if, how long, etc. Their experiences might help you plan.

Good luck,

I am going to have my library open on Mondays this summer. I do not
want to have any lessons to plan, I just want to be open one day a week
for parents and students to be able to come in and check-out books. Have
any of you done this before? If so, what do I need to know to make this
successful?

What hours were you open?
What rules did you have?
Did you allow students into the library without an adult with them? (we
are a K-5 school).
How long did you allow students to stay in the library?

Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
