[LM_NET] TAR: Elementary Reference Materials

I hope someone has some sage advice on finding current elementary reference 
materials.
Here's my situation.
My ¾ graders just completed their "country" reports. I noticed that two great 
references:

1.       Junior Worldmark Encyclopedia of World Cultures (Gale) is from 1999

2.       Lands and Peoples (Grolier) is also from 1999.
Since these resources are 10 years old, and the world has substantially changed 
since then, I feel a pressing need to update these.
It seems that both of these resources are only online now. Teachers want the 
students to research with books as well as the internet.
Does anyone know of a PRINT resource for world cultures at an elementary reading 
level?
