Here's my original request:  A couple of English teachers asked me for
suggestions for summer reading for their AP students, grades 10 and 11. They
want books that are centered in or based upon a historically significant
time period or event, preferably novels. 

Below are the responses I received. Thanks so much to everyone who gave me
